Severn Athletic Club’s Greg Leyshon said, “It’s a long-time dream and ambition come true, an England representative vest after 47 years running”.
72-year-old Leyshon, one of the counties prominent distance runners since the 1970’s for Gloucester Athletic Club then Severn Athletic Club has been chosen for the over 70 England team to meet Wales in the Bristol 10K after a series of good summer road race performances.
Leyshon explained,” I did train up prior to becoming an over 70, targeting a good marathon and a possible England over 70 vest. Unfortunately, Covid lock down and cancellations scuppered opportunities in 2020 and 2021, and you don’t get any younger. However, I kept training and been able to return to the increased race programme in 2022″.
