  • Weekly news 24/07Gordon Sinclair, one of the cities most durable and successful sprinters from his days at Brockworth School in the 1970’s to his honours strewn campaign in the veteran age group has died recently.A key member of the nationally ranked Gloucester Athletic Club squads of the 1980’s, he amassed many wins and points in the sprints, relays, long jump and 400 metre hurdles. Work took him to Jersey where he represented the island in the high quality Southern Counties championships and representative matches. He ran a nationally ranked 48.4 seconds for the 400 Metres there and held his club record at 100 metres(10.8) and 200 metres(22.0).Returning to the city he became a key member in Severn Athletic Club’s remarkable record when they only lost once in gaining promotion from Division Seven to Division One of the Midland League in successive seasons. He won championship and representative honours at county and area level as a young, senior and veteran(over40) athlete.Tributes complimented his quiet fierce competitiveness. His knowledge of athletic training and racing made him a valuable coach and advisor contributing significantly to the success of many club mates.Terry Haines, team manager to Gordon at Gloucester AC and Severn AC said, “The abiding memory of Gordon was his immaculate straight line style charging off the bend which him and his team many victories in the final metres”.Severn AC Results:Westonbirt House Summer 10K: 10 James Smith(3/V40) 39:57. 199 ran.The Age Grader: Shepperdine: 5 Miles: Race Results (Time trial) in AG percentage order:Pos Name Cat AG% AG Time Chip Time44 James SMITH 5/V40 72.08% 29:14 30:4353 Gregory LEYSHON 4/V70 69.66% 30:15 41:5655 Angela WIXEY FV50 68.80% 34:39 43:2859 Nathan PETTIT MS 67.60% 31:10 31:2379 ran.
