Weekly news 17/07

After their team victory in the Gloucester 10K, Severn Athletic Club followed up with a win in the Forest Of Dean’s top road race, the Blaisdon 10K, which they last won in 2015.
Alex Lee(V40 Western Tempo) led all the way winning in 33:46. Second Marcus Bennetto(Forest Of Dean) in 36:28, third Robert Deller(Dursley RC) in 36:41, both establishing themselves by half way. Severn’s Chris Brown and Archie Fox kept them in sight throughout the race without closing the gap. Brown broke away from Fox at 6K, almost catching Deller at 9K, then slipped a little on the uphill finish. He placed fourth and second Vet40 in 36:52, pleased he is recovering his form at the shorter distances after catching Covid in mid June. Fox placed fifth in 37:18. Dan Nurse(3/V40) was ninth in 39:13 commenting “The undulating course adds a minute to your time”. Completing the team in 12th, Dave Clarke(2/V50) in 40:12.


Severn AC’s growing numbers in the ladies divisions also put out some fine performances with Sam Hayward Watts finishing 5th lady and placing 27th overall in 43:59. She was followed by Tracey Brenton (FV45) in 48:36, she finished 2nd in her age category and 54th overall. She was closely followed up by Idella Goga (FV40) in 48:41, who finished in 55th place and was 3rd in her age category.

Cotswold Way Trail Double Marathon(Race to the Tower 85K): 5th Andy Monro(1/V50) 9:49:09, 285 Jon Schofield 15:26:17. 500 finished.

Evesham 10K: 91 Graeme Brand 46:48. 438 ran.
