Severn Athletic Club captain James Rose had a tough battle to maintain his club road race supremacy in the last race of the Hereford 5K series.

Winter recruit Archie Fox(27) has been steadily improving since starting running, establishing himself as a regular team scorer in the cross-country season. His summer target is a sub 17 minute “5K”. At Hereford he started fast surprising Rose who was well behind Fox’s group.

“I could see Archie’s group of five well ahead, I had to make a big finishing effort to pass them”. Fox was caught on the line with Rose 24th in 17:17 & Fox 25th, in a personal best time of 17:18.

Wave 1: 24 James Rose 17:17 3/V40, 25 Archie Fox 17:18, 37 James Smith 17:56 5/V40 PB, 44 David Clarke 18:24 5/V50 & 67 Alex Jenkins 19:33. 68 ran.

Wave 2: 12 David Howells 19:39 1/V55, 61 Matthew Leyshon 22:24 V40 & 88 Gregory Leyshon 23:52 4/V70. 169 ran.

Overall Series Results: 3rd Team Severn AC (James Rose, Archie Fox, Dave Clarke & James Smith), 18th & 4th Vet 40 James Rose, 21st Archie Fox, 4th Vet 50 Dave Clarke & 3rd Vet 70 Greg Leyshon. 184 ran all 3 Races.

Cleeve Cloud Cuckoo 5 Mile Multi Terrain: 84 Neil Taylor V/50 52:48. 105 ran.

Fairford 10K: 15 Andy Monro 2/V50 38:50, 41 Dave Howells V/50 42:26, 75 Kevin Probyn V/50 46:17 & 109 Greg Leyshon 3/V70 49:56. 285 ran.
