Severn Athletic Club had their best performance in the seasons final Birmingham Cross-Country League Division Three race which they hosted at Plock Court.
They placed third of the twenty two teams, their first podium position in 2019-2020.
The fast six mile course saw junior international Chris McLoud(Solihull) gain a clear cut victory over Severn’s Harry Bishop. Bishop was unable to match McCloud’s fierce pace early on so concentrated on securing second place which he did easily. McCloud’s time was 31:26, Bishop’s 32:45. Third was David Brewis(Sphinx) in 32:59.
Severn captain James Rose(V40) placed ninth in 34:21, gaining five places in the final three miles. Chris Brown 14th in 34:58, had his best run of the season. Will Richmond 31st in 36:59, his first race for two months. Dave Howells(V50) 40th in 37:39 and Dave Clarke(V45) 43rd in 37:52 had their best league runs ever.
Severn fielded a ‘B’ team for the first time this season placing second ‘B’ team on the day.
47th John Withers(V55) 38:04(best league placing), 53rd Alex Jenkins 38:34, 58th Andy Bright 39:03(league debut), 113th Adrian England(V40) 42:16, 119th Andy Brown(V60) 42:33, 121st Neil Taylor(V50) 42:37 & Farook Mota(V45) was 158th in 44:41. 207 ran.
The first six series placings were Tamworth 426, Aldridge 492, Solihull & Small Heath 561, Sphinx 603, Severn 666 & Norhbrook 905.
Club captain James Rose said ” The fight for the top three promotion places was closely fought every race. We now know what we have do to gain promotion next season”.
At the Thorpe & Egham Half Marathon Imran Hassanjee(V40) ran a new personal best when 33rd in 1:25:37. 906 ran.
