Severn Athletic Club’s 16 year old distance runner Alex Rawlings had his most succesful week yet in his 18 months running career. As reported last week, he won the silver medal in the Midland Counties Under 17 cross country-championhips. This was the first medal won in this race by a city club member since Steve Mchale at Nottingham in 1969. Rawlings was always in the leading group at the 6K event with namesake Liam Rawlings(Oswestry) having the fastest last 200 metres winning by 7 seconds in 20:07. Alex said ” I should have tried to get away earlier”.

Learning from this error, he led all the way in the mid week Phomphrey 5K road race. Beating all the seniors for the second month in a row in a time of 15:52.

He then added to his many Parkrun victories when first past the post in 17:31 at Gloucester City. 

Six club members competed in the Staverton 10 mile road race run over a 2 lap course.
