The 72nd Annual Tredworth Easter Monday 4.3 Mile Road Race from the Pilot Inn, Hardwicke was a record breaker. The largest entry for 20 years included many runners from the new city running groups.
Veteran over 40 Max Shepherd (Coney Hill) was a clear second all the way but only just held a last mile surge from Ben Hope (Abbeydale), Shepherd clocking 25:31. Hope third in 25:35, four seconds behind said ” My dad won it twice in the 1980’s. Winning this one is my challenge for 2020″.
19 year old Bethan Moor (Quedgeley) improved the ladies course record by twenty one seconds with her 28:11 in seventh place. In twelfth place Kirsty Martin (Quedgeley), 2018’s ladies winner was second lady in 31:10. Amy Walker(Kingsway) was nineteenth and third lady in 34:26. 44 ran.
Former Barton Mayor Horton Cameron who donated the men’s winners shield and Town Crier Alan Myatt who donated the ladies shield started the race and presented the prizes.
Organiser Terry Haines was delighted with the city support for Gloucester’s oldest road race.
