Weekly news 29/07

Severn Athletic Club’s Pilot Inn 5 Kilometre Road race was a record breaker. Stroud AC’s Lee Stopford was quickly in control, establishing a lead before concentrating on setting a PB. He won in 16 minutes, 26 seconds inside the previous event record and superior to his previous Parkrun times.

Severn Athletic Club’s Peter Stephens in his first open race of his comeback, tried to stay with Stopford’s pace. He couldn’t, and at half way was second being chased by Stroud AC’s Martin Wood. Wood got past with half a mile to go and placed second in 17:11. Stephens was third in 17:18, the third best time by a Severn member in 2018.

Severn’s next home was Arian England, 10th in a seasons best of 18:49. Clubmate Dave Lander surprised himself after a long absence with victory in the over 50’s, placing 11th in 18:52. Severn’s other scorers were: Dave Clarke(V45) 14th in 19:30, Stephen Hale(V40) 15th in 19:48 & Dave Howells(V50) 17th in 19:59

Stroud AC won the team race scoring 36 points to Severn’s 70 points.

The next Pilot Inn 5k race will take place on the 29th August with a race start time of 19:30. This race is currently pending a UKA licence and is officially course measured.
