Severn Athletic Club’s Chris Brown led Severn to their first team victory in two years in the club’s New Years Day 4 Mile Road Race from Elmore Village Hall.

Brown has progressed steadily since taking up running seriously in 2015, taking over the club’s secretary role last January spearheading the club’s revival.

After victory in the cities oldest race the 55th Annual Christmas Morning 3 Mile Road Race Handicap, he faced constant rival and former team mate Mark James now domiciled in Cheltenham.

The pair quickly headed the race matching strides until the 3 mile marker. Here James spurted on the final downhill 300 metres. He won in 22:04 with Brown finishing second in 22:19. Third was Bristol’s Phil Parry(V50) in 23:06.

Severn vice captain James Rose led the rest of the team home placing fourth in 23:21. Other scorers were 7th Steve hale(V40) 27:17, 15th Greg Leyshon(1st V65) 32:18, 17th Kevin Probyn(V50) 34:38 & John James(V65) 38:06.

County Cross Country Championships 9K (Old Down Bristol): 15th James Rose 35:17 & 52nd Steve Hale(V40) 40:51. 102 ran.

Bristol Eastville Parkrun: 30th Neil Taylor(V45) 21:11. 551 ran.

Crystal Palace Parkrun: 7th Rich Brown 19:29. 365 ran.

Gloucester North Parkrun: 126th Dave Blackburn(V70) 45:35(course PB). 137 ran.

Kingsway Parkrun: 11th Andy Brown(V55) 20:48, 73rd Kevin Probyn(V50) 25:24 & 153rd John James(V65) 29:41. 288 ran.

On Saturday(13th Jan) Severn compete in the third Birmingham Cross Country League Division 3 race at Droitwitch. Cars leave the Greyhound Longlevens at 12:15. Please remember to bring your race number from the previous race.
