Weekly news 12/02, 29/01 and 22/01

Severn Athletic Club were disappointed not to retain their Division Two placing in their first season after promotion from Division Three of the Birmingham Cross-Country League.
In the final 6 Mile race over a demanding moorland course at Burton Dassett, they placed thirteenth of the fourteen teams. They failed to overtake Black Pear(Worcester) by 26 points who tallied 1580 pts overall, placing 11th to Severn’s 1606 pts in twelfth.
Individually Severn battled for places with four of the scoring six running season best placings. Captain James rose welcomed the steep uphill’s placing 34th. Dan Nurse started fast leading Rose to 2 miles placing 56th, the second scoring team member. Ben Hope(64th), coped well with the quickly changing gradients. Alex Hope(75th) and Dave Clarke(79th), raced together producing season best races, with Chris Brown(94th) staying with them to 3 miles before dropping back.

Severn Athletic Club fared well in the Linda Franks 5 Mile Road Race with a second place, four runners in the top twenty placings and two age group wins.
James Denne(Western Tempo) was the clear victor in 25 minutes 40 seconds with Steve Kenyon maintaining his top Severn ranking, placing second in 26:34. Progress was shown by club mates Ben Hope seventh in 27:36, Archie Fox twelfth in 28:51 and Dan Nurse thirteenth and second V40 in 29:07.
Andy Monro 27th in 30:30, won the V50’s title two weeks after ultra-distance success.
Richard Boseley who started running aged 58, won his fifth V60 award when 46th in 31:59.

Severn Athletic Club face a challenge to avoid relegation from Division Two of the Birmingham Cross-Country League. They placed thirteenth, slipping two places overall to twelfth with three to be relegated. With one race to remaining the points are Cannock & Stafford 1126, Black Pear 1194, Severn 1206, Spa Striders 1454 & Tamworth 1510.

Severn Athletic Club won two gold, two silver and two bronze at the County Cross-Country Championships at Guiting Power.
Alex Hope who has won county titles at all disciplines from under seventeen level won the over 55 title helping the club to it’s first veteran team title for ten years. Richard Boseley and Emma Millman also won their first county medals.
