
Severn Athletic Club utilised their home Plock Court Cross-Country 10K course to advantage in the second Birmingham Cross-Country Division 3 race.
Equalling the first race score of 209 points they placed third of 23 clubs behind Western Tempo and Sphinx(Coventry), enabling them to move up to second overall increasing their promotion chances of a top three placing. Severn also placing second ‘B’ team.
The 216 strong field soon straggled out. Dominic James (Tempo) led all the way winning in 34 minutes 39 seconds, 74 second ahead.
Severn’s team were led home by captain James Rose, 17th in 38:47, passing three in the sprint to the line. He got away from Chris Brown after 4 Kilometres with Brown finishing 26th in 39:51. Summer signing Matt Hitchings established himself as third scorer replicating his 30th in race one running 40:06. 1980/90’s star Alex Hope coming off 150 mile, 9 week training(rewarded by a sub 3 hour marathon), demonstrated his masterly pacing of old gaining place after place to finish 41st in 41:04. Fifth score Dave Clarke, 45th in 41:17 with debutant Archie Fox completing the scorers, 50th in 41:29.
