Weekly News 10/02

Severn Athletic Club concluded their Birmingham Cross-Country League Division Three season in the fourth race at Berkeley finishing fifth on the day. They were fourth overall in the league out of the 21 teams, one place behind the top three promotion places.

Newly appointed club captain James Rose(V40) 11th, led the team home in 41:26 for the tough 10.3K course, a strong finish gaining vital places. Gary Hope(V50) tracked his team mates Will Richmond & Chris Brown before passing them 2 miles out, he was 26th in 43:12. Richmond produced his best cross-country performance, 30th in 43:33. Brown 31st in 43:38, was disappointed after a mid race falter.

Fifth scorer was new member John Withers(V50) placing 65th in 46:07, catching anchor man Dave Clarke(V45) at the end. Clarke placed 66th in 46:12.

Severn finished a ‘B’ team for the third time this season placing fourth and 7th ‘B’ team overall, headed with league bests by Dave Howells(V50) 73rd in 46:52 and Alex Jenkins 86th in 47:50. Other scores were Adrian England 102nd in 49:05, 106th Ian Overthrow(V50) 49:18 & 123rd Andy Brown(V60) 51:05. In only his second cross-country race and scoring for the first time, Farook Mota(V45) 161st anchored the team in 54:25. 211 ran.

With three team members finishing in the top twenty overall(James Rose 8th, Chris Brown 17th & Gary Hope 18th) club captain Rose was satisfied with the all out efforts displayed and urged members to aim for 2020 promotion.

Crystal Palace: 26th Richard Chapman-Brown 21:08. 422 ran.

Gloucester City: 1st Alex Rawlings(JM15-17) 17:21(course PB), 37th Les Davis(1/V75) 24:29 & 45th Emma Rawlings(2/LV45) 24:52. 193 ran.

Gloucester North: 6th Neil Taylor(V45) 21:23. 110 ran.

Kingsway: 60th Kevin Probyn(V50) 25:08, 78th George Scully(V65) 26:24, 91st Phil Reece(V55) 26:34 & 115th Faye Chandler(LV35) 28:25. 225 ran.
