Severn’s Athletic Club’s Chris Brown won the Pilot Inn 5 Kilometre Road Race from club mate James Rose. The two have been swapping positions with each other all year.
They battled again, shrugging off the early challenge of Jack Grant(Stroud AC).
Brown increased the pace and at one mile opened a gap. He was ten seconds ahead at the turnaround half way mark. Unchallenged he increased his lead to win in 17:10, Rose held off the resurgent challenge of Grant to take second by nine seconds in 17:30.
Brown became the first Severn athlete to win one of the club’s prestige road races for three years, adding to his win in the Bitton 5K in May.
Severn made it three wins in four races reversing the team result on Stroud AC who won the Cirencester 10K. Severn scored 43 points to Stroud’s 73 points.
Promising novice Will Richmond improved his PB by seven seconds when sixth in 18:12. Dave Clarke(V45) 19th in 19:05, Sam Turner 12th with a PB 19:45 and Dave Howells(V50) 13th in 20:00 completed the scorers.
