Severn AC Marathon Round Up 27/04/2025

On a wonderfully warm and sunny Sunday, great for spectators but a challenge for runners, Severn AC registered some scorching times across the country with participants taking place in the London Marathon; Manchester Marathon; Shakespeare Stratford Upon Avon Marathon & the Blackpool Marathon. In the world-famous London marathon, Steve Kenyon was first home for Severn AC in 2.44.39. Club Chairman Dan Nurse was second home for Severn AC in 2.50.08. After the race, Nurse said ‘I was 11 seconds short of my PB but given the conditions I’ll take that. It was hot. The first hour was fine but once I got to Canary Wharf, which was about mile 15, it got really hot. It is one of my best runs. At the time I was disappointed I didn’t get a PB. I had been hoping to run 2 hours 47 minutes but the heat took it out of me, as it did so many people.’ Alice Tredgett, running the London marathon on her 30th birthday and the first time in the championship wave, was first lady home for Severn AC with a time of 3.21.00 with Natalie Cranfield second lady with a time of 3.23.50. Special mention to Severn AC’s Rich Frape who, after recovering from Stage 3 Bowel cancel and undergoing surgery in February 2024 followed by 3 months of chemotherapy, ran the marathon and finished in an impressive time of 3.52.23 whilst also raising over £1.3k for Bowel Cancer UK. Also, another special mention to father and son duo Greg (75) & Matt Leyshon who ran together, 40 years after Greg first ran the London Marathon.
Five members also ran the Manchester Marathon with Simon Guilor putting in a fantastic performance with a time of 2.43.36; Becky Nield completing her first marathon finishing in 3.43.54; Farook Mota finishing in 3.57.25; Joanna Hobson undertook the 4 hour pacing role and finished in 3.59.32 & Justin Hutchinson in 4.05.01.

Archie Fox also made his marathon debut at the Shakespeare Stratford Upon Avon marathon and completed the 26.2 mile course with a scintillating time of 2.44.19 and 5th overall.
